Our Latest Piece of History

January 21, 2008

Welcome to the TJ Formal Blog!

Things are really busy around here... and that's an understatement! Prom season is getting underway, dress are arriving daily and on top of that we've moved to a new website. Don't get us wrong, we couldn't be more excited and we're thrilled with the change, but as expected there are lots of adjustments to make. We're learning more about our new system everyday and we hope you're enjoying the flashy new storefront!  For those of you that are placing orders, we really, really appreciate your patience as we get the kinks worked out. We'll get things rolling smoothly in no time... after all, we've been selling dresses for a long, long time.

In fact, we've been selling dresses online for a decade! Ten years may not seem like a long time, but on the scale of the internet, that's nearly forever!! For those of you who need proof (or just want to reminisce), here's a glimpse of our online history. (Please no snickering, this is like showing off those old school photos when you had braces and bad hair and were wearing that ridiculous outfit... you get the point.)

This first edition was created by our owner, right in her living room! Completely self taught, she was one of, if not THE first, prom or bridal store with designer dresses to hit the web. This site was only meant to promote our store and display information about our dresses, but the phones rang off the wall as customers called into ask questions about our unique site and, unexpectedly, they soon began ordering dresses!

This was our first shopping cart website and a huge step up from a simple static site. Now we were really ready to handle the orders that were pouring in. The phone lines also got a bit of a rest since people could order for themselves online. We were moving up...and quickly outgrew the capabilities of our system.

Our first completely custom website was a big step for us. We were growing and needed something highly specialized. The few short years we spent here were absolutely record breaking! With our increasing sales, and increasingly savvy internet shoppers, it was obvious another move was needed.

Here we are... our stunning new shopping cart and and web design! This site has so many handy new features that should make shopping easy and exciting and we're looking forward to our biggest year ever! We hope you love it as much as we do and we're glad you've made the change with us.

Prom Hair Styles

A great prom hair style is so important for your prom look! To make sure you look your absolute best on your big night be sure to plan ahead. It's a good idea to practice your prom hair updo several weeks before your prom to see how long it will take, what items you will need, and if it's really the style for you and your dress. If you're having your hair done at a salon, make an appointment well in advance and take along a picture to show your stylist exactly what you want. Your prom pics will be great and you'll have more fun as you dance the night away.

Dressing Your Maids

The first step to choosing a bridesmaid gown is to determine the formality, style and fabric of the wedding gown so that the maids gowns do not overpower the bride. Choose the color first to narrow choices. You might want to begin choosing a gown style with the larger maids in mind. In recent years, prices have declined making the average maid's dress only $140. With careful selection, your bridesmaids will be happy with the final results and spend the wedding day celebrating with the bride and her groom.

How to Shop for Your Dress

Start shopping early. Try on lots of different styles to narrow your choices. Formal dresses run about one size smaller than your regular clothes. Take the salesperson's suggestions about what styles and colors look good on you. Let them help you try on the dresses to save you time. Alterations are important for a perfect fit. Allow plenty of time for alterations and fittings. Bring the shoes you will be wearing to your appt. Buy your jewelry, shoes and other accessories at the time of the dress purchase. Have a great time at your formal event!
