Revive Old Hollywood with an award-worthy prom dress
25 February 2011

What better occasion than the Academy Awards to look for style inspiration hearkening from the best of Hollywood? The red carpet is a place where new fashions emerge all the time, but reviving the classic Old Hollywood glam is one move that never goes out of style.

People.com recently compared Raquel Welch's 1972 getup at the Oscars to the dress Charlize Theron wore at the 2004 ceremony. Both looked ravishing in their champagne-colored cocktail dresses, which featured deep-V necklines, skinny straps and a sexy center slit along an otherwise trailing hemline. The look was easily fit for any leading Hollywood starlet, as it accentuates glowing complexions and lovely figures.

Take a page out of Theron's book by pairing such a dress with a wavy 1940's-era bob and matching gold jewelry. Her stunning glow was partially what made her look so fantastic, so this is one dress that will easily go well some self-tanner, which many ladies invariably will use in the weeks leading up to their events.

Look for dresses that feature demure, sophisticated textures, as well - Theron's gown had an extra sheen to it thanks to the pearls and beads that dotted the fabric.

Wow the crowd in a gold-leaf cocktail dress
25 February 2011

Have you ever been inspired by those crazy metallic makeup looks that high fashion runway models sport sometimes on the catwalk? Not that having your face covered in gold-leaf swirls is practical for your day-to-day life, but it's still remarkably fun to look at.

Perhaps there's a way to take it down a notch, though. Jayma Mays showed us how with a stunning cocktail dress embellished with shiny gold-leaf designs. The dress took the best of this eye-catching material and made it wearable, which Mays did so well in the knee-length, deep-V number. She accented her trim physique with a matching gold belt shaped like a garland of leaves.

Mays' savvy evening look is the perfect inspiration for a fancy night out on the town, and ladies may want to take note of how well the cut flattered her figure.

A tapered knee-length pencil skirt can be a becoming solution for many girls, and the plunging neckline showed just the right amount of skin, which she balanced with the thick shoulder straps. She wasn't afraid to take the gold motif to her clutch or bracelet, either, so looking for small ways to shine isn't an altogether bad idea.

Getting glammed up with metallics
24 February 2011

So many ways to stand out at your next social event - so little time to consider all your options? Well, not if you've been reading up on the latest fashion trends.

If you've been keeping an eye on the red carpet as of late, you'll know that lots of stars have been rocking the metallic look. The Herald Sun pointed out that it was the main trend at this year's Grammys, and many A-list celebrities have been flaunting shiny dresses to other big name events.

Whether you rock a sequined cocktail gown or a mirror-paneled minidress, all eyes will be on you with this shiny trend. What's great about metallics is you can go as minimal or over-the-top as you want with the motif. Keep it demure with just a shiny accessorry or sparkly pair of shoes, or go completely all out with a blinging silver dress, matching metallic pumps and a shiny beaded clutch.

If you do decide to rock it to the extreme, make sure all of your elements coordinate, however. If you opt for a gold dress, it's probably better to look for something bronze, yellow or black in terms of accessories rather than silver or gray.

Sophisticated ways to rock leopard print for prom
24 February 2011

Perhaps leopard print has received a bad name thanks to its oft-misappropriated use in tacky ensembles. That's too bad, because animal print couture can actually be rocked in super sophisticated ways, and it's especially great for prom this year.

If you're looking for some inspurration, check out Kate Moss's getup at a recent event. The model rocked a midnight blue, one-shouldered minidress featuring sequined black leopard-print spots. Paired with a satin black blazer, sheer black tights and shiny black pumps, the dress looked every bit ready for the catwalk.

You can make the most of any animal-print frock by opting for a dress that uses a soft, elegant fabric to take some of the edge off the bold pattern. That means ditching the velour yellow and black textures that are only fit for your grade-school pencil cases and looking for silk or satin royal blues, creams and dove grays.

What's the ultimate path to being the cat's meow? Accessorizing well may seal the deal. Borrow from Moss's sensibilities by employing statement chandelier earrings or pointy-toed shoes.

Be a sweetheart with a patterned frock
24 February 2011

What's your vision of prom like? If looking like a doll (or a dah-ling, if that's your thing) is in the picture, consider what a sweetheart neckline can do for you.

If you need a little celebrity inspiration, just check out Brooklyn Decker's look at the Madrid premiere of her new flick, Just Go With It. The model-turned-actress showed up to the red carpet with an off-white floral print A-line frock and a criss-crossed bodice that made her look oh-so-sweet.

This '50s-inspired good-girl style can be just the thing for prom this year, as it'll make any girl look like the belle of the ball, whether she's walking in on her partner's arm or flaunting it solo.

Decker's twist on the classic may also be an interesting choice, as a fun contemporary print can add a bit of interest to this cut. Floral prints are the ultimate go-to for a feminine look, but you can (literally) go wild when it comes to patterns.

Revive Hollywood glam with a vintage-style neckline
24 February 2011

Remember those old photos of Ella Fitzgerald or Lena Horne that made you dream of looking like a refined lady of the swinging jazz era? Well, Halle Berry showed us all a way to bring back that Old Hollywood vibe at the Costume Designers Guild Awards in Beverly Hills.

The ageless beauty showed up to the event in a trailing crimson dress made of the most delicate material - sheer panels of lace peeped out from her skirts and criss-crossed her bodice, looking all but gossamer-like. To evoke the styles of the past, Berry's dress featured a deep criss-crossed neckline that emphasized her sizeable bust.

A vintage-inspired look can be the perfect solution for any girl who's looking to step outside of the norm for her upcoming prom. Surprisingly, opting for a retro look can even be a spectacular way to stay current.

For the vintage prom of your dreams, look for garments that recall your favorite decade. Fifties-inspired looks might feature A-line skirts, while a seventies throwback would probably include loose, flowy garments with beaded fringe.

Channel red carpet glam for a classic prom look
23 February 2011

The taffeta and tulle of prom season isn't going anywhere, but you can stand out from the crowd of tacky-looking gowns with a look that's inspired by the vintage Hollywood glamour of the red carpet.

Who says you should conform to the trendy look of the minute? Trust us, those prom pictures are going to be around for decades, and some particularly cruel friend will undoubtedly dig them out for a wedding slideshow if you pick a gown that'll be out of fashion in a hot second. (How many prom-goers from 1985 are regretting that lime green satin?)

Instead, get your inspiration from classical Hollywood beauties that know how to put a modern twist on a vintage look.

Classy silhouettes like the sweetheart-necked A-line, the floor-length Grecian-inspired gown and the mermaid dress are always in style, and many young prom-goers eschew them for more mall-friendly looks. Surprise your classmates by putting your own spin on these timeless fashions and opt for pieces that feature unique details, flirty cut-outs or unexpected colors.

And what if you like the style of the minute? There's nothing wrong with that! Many celebrities have taken fashion risks on the red carpet and been praised for their daring. Whatever you want to wear on prom night, it's fine with us - as long as you feel beautiful.

Dressing for an office party
23 February 2011

Some jobs are more glamorous than others, but nearly every employee gets the chance at least once or twice a year to don a gorgeous gown and enjoy a few libations with her coworkers at a fancy venue.

Even if you don't work for a fashion magazine or get to walk the red carpet at the Academy Awards, you can still feel like a star at your office events with a beautiful dress that channels Hollywood glamour. When you pick the right office party getup, you'll still look appropriately modest for your coworkers, but you'll feel a bit more feminine than you did in all those trousers and blazers you've been wearing for the last six months.

An office party isn't the time to choose a sexy dress. Save the flirty frocks for a date night with your significant other and go for something a little more demure. You don't need to look matronly in a high-necked or floor-length piece, but avoid plunging V's, backless dresses and anything that falls too short above the knee.

If you normally dress in brown, black and grey suits, an office party is the perfect time to pump a little personality into your wardrobe. Pick a fun, flirty color that's still mature (like red, blue or purple) if you want to attract a little more attention than usual. If you feel most comfortable in black, you can't go wrong with a classic and timeless LBD.

So dress up and party on - just be sure you don't do anything embarrassing that you'll have to explain to your coworkers next Monday!

The Devil is in the Details
22 February 2011

Sleek silhouettes are always in vogue, but if you're looking to go a little bolder this spring, it's the little things that can take a gown from blah-blah-blah to vah-vah-voom!

One way to ease into bolder trends is to pick a style that incorporates something daring - fringe, whorls, beads or sequins, for example - without sacrificing a more classic outline. An exciting gown doesn't have to break all the molds at once. A timeless silhouette can take on a modern feel when accented with feathers, glitter or jewels, while still being a relatively safe choice for a night on the town.

Looking to go all-out, you fearless fashion maven? If you don't plan to shy away from any of spring's daring looks, go ahead and do it right. Pick a dress that features a ruffled hem, sequined bodice, unique silhouette and bejeweled straps all at once. It's worked on the red carpet, why can't it work for you?

Embracing detail in your formal looks this spring can be as bold a fashion choice as you want it to be. Go for one unique addition or a totally one-of-a-kind pinafore - either way, you'll enjoy the praise a little attention to detail can win you.

Debunking the myth of the ugly bridesmaid's dress
22 February 2011

Rumor has it that envy-prone brides have been deliberately picking the most hideous bridesmaid's attire they can find for as long as weddings have been around. The ugly bridesmaid's dress has become such a cultural trope that many of us feel a twinge of fear as soon as we hear of a friend's impending nuptials, no matter how fashion-conscious she may be.

But fear not, bridesmaids! As long as your bride-to-be is confident in her own beauty, there are plenty of dresses she can choose for you that are flattering and classic without distracting from the newlyweds.

Everyone knows that the bride is the star of the show, so if you're hoping for a flashy bridesmaid dress with sequins and sparkles, you can probably forget about it. However, many brides do opt for brightly-colored bridesmaid gowns that contrast nicely with the black-and-white attire of the couple being married. Summer weddings in particular have played host to all kinds of emeralds, yellows, vermilions and indigos.

As for the silhouette, bridesmaid's dresses are like wedding gowns - there are infinite varieties! Depending on the venue and time of the ceremony, the bride may choose floor-length or short dresses, strapless or long-sleeved, patterned or solid, or any other combination.

There's at least one cliche that we know is true, though. The best part of a well-chosen bridesmaid dress is that you really can shorten it and wear it again!

The 70s are Back!
21 February 2011

If you happened to catch a little somethin' known as the Golden Globes earlier this year, you might have noticed that billowing silhouettes were all the rage. From Natalie Portman's drapey Viktor & Rolf number to Michelle Williams' flower-power inspired gown, the 70s are back in a big way.

Ever since the AMC show Mad Men gained a large following a few years ago, structured dresses in the style of the 50s and 60s have been popular on the red carpet. But their time may be winding to a close, thanks to stiff competition from the blouson looks and flowing shapes many stars have been sporting lately.

There are many ways to incorporate the era of peace and love into your clothes. Bright colors, bold prints and retro silhouettes are some of the main signals of a 70s-inspired outfit, so don't be afraid to go big. Blow out your hair into Farah Fawcett waves, strap on some chunky shoes and load up on the bangles to capitalize on this fun fashion trend.

Brittany Snow inspires retro prom hopefuls
17 February 2011

Looking (and dressing) the part of the flower child hasn't looked this sweet since the '70s. Brittany Snow showed up to the recent Rock & Republic Love is Louder Valentine's Event in a long-sleeved, lacy white minidress that was simply to die for.

The mere sight of her ensemble brings back a torrent of would-be memories from the Summer of Love. The lace pattern was reminiscent of the kind of boho-inspired tunics you see in historic photos of decades past, featuring delicate scalloped edges and a loose-fitting ease.

Snow delicately balanced the look with nude-colored peep-toe pumps, short dark nails and a simple gold necklace.

Ladies envisioning a retro-themed prom look this year can use Snow as inspiration, as she managed to take what was great about the past and bring it to light in a contemporary fashion. For those with a '70s vision in mind, opt for loose-fitting, simple dresses that recall a carefree attitude.

Yet another variant on the LBD
17 February 2011

Every woman's closet should be equipped with a sexy black number - are we right, or are we wrong?

But every once in awhile, even a classic fashion item needs a distinct modern twist, and we're excited to say that there's a new way to pull off the little black dress that will have many Posh Spice faithfuls rejoicing.

Sophia Bush showed us all just how stunning a long-sleeved black minidress can be when she rolled up to the Love is Louder Valentine's Event in Los Angeles. The One Tree Hill actress looked svelte in her number, which featured sheer panels and leather trim accents, hugging her figure in all the right places.

Girls shopping for a formal dress should consider this style, as black makes everyone look slimmer, and with the addition of the sleeves, you'll look sexy yet sophisticated. Better yet, the short skirt and solid color lend themselves to standout shoes, so feel free to accessorize with a pair of loud pumps.

Emily Blunt steps out in demure lacy frock
16 February 2011

Who ever said wearing a dress that could have been taken out of a shepherd's closet couldn't be the cutest idea anyone's ever had? Emily Blunt demonstrated this all too well at the premiere of her new movie Adjustment Bureau. The actress arrived in a pinkish nude long-sleeved gown bedecked in intricate floral ruffles which culminated in a flattering A-line knee-length skirt.

The bodice had an added band of ruffles across the bosom and the arms, and Blunt showed off her amazing waist with a pink ribbon tied strategically around her middle.

The cut and shape of the dress were certainly reminiscent of a pastoral scene, but Blunt's look hardly had anything to do with Mary or her lamb. Perhaps what made her look so demure was the elegant lacy fabric that was hardly a shade off of her rosy skintone, creating the effect of a skin-tight sheen that had her glowing from top to bottom.

Ladies getting ready for prom this year may consider a lacy frock such as Blunt's for the ultimate in romantic styles.

Emma Watson's dress strikes perfect balance between sexy and sophisticated
16 February 2011

Famed for her iconographic fashion sense, Emma Watson looked ready to bust a few moves all professional-like at the Elle Style Awards in London.

The Harry Potter starlet showed up on the red carpet in a stunning taupe number which featured well-placed slits exposing the sides of her abdomen and a pair of well-toned legs. The chic dress balanced the exposure by covering her generously in the front with a boat-neck cut, which came down in a V-shape to her waist to meet the flouncy, super-short skirt.

Emma's ability to accessorize takes her outfits far beyond their original greatness, and this time was no exception. She paired her one-of-a-kind dress with pointy nude pumps and an intricate gold cuff bracelet that gave her the presence of a sexy Amazonian warrior princess that could kick anyone's butt in a tap-dance stand-off.

This dress is a great source of inspiration for girls shopping for a dress to wear to a fashion-forward event. The unusual cut and graceful fabric will be the subject of much discussion as you step out in grand style.

Claire Danes steps out in a belted formal dress
15 February 2011

Though she has been walking red carpets for nearly 20 years, Clarie Danes never ceases to amaze us in fabulous floor-length dresses at Hollywood events. Of course, her getup at the Screen Actors Guild Awards was no exception.

Danes, who took home the statue for her portrayal of the title character in the HBO biopic Temple Grandin, sported a truly unforgettable ensemble. The floral-print material contained a wide-variety of blue hues, and the strapless number was cinched at the waist with a bold black belt.

We applaud Danes for so flawlessly blending the elegance of a floor-length gown with the chic, modern accent of a silver-buckle-belt. While the accessory could look out of place on other formal dresses, it helped define Danes' figure and kept the piece from overwhelming her dainty frame.

Gals who want extra definition may want to follow Danes' lead and rock a sleek belt with their next glamorous getup - their silhouettes will surely be show-stopping. However, ladies should remember to start shopping online soon - you'll want time to track down the perfect belt as well!

Emma Watson opens up about personal style
15 February 2011

Few Hollywood starlets have made as big a splash in the fashion world as Emma Watson. The Harry Potter star constantly wows critics with her spot-on sense of style, and now that she's sporting a new, cropped 'do, it's clear she has cemented her place as one of the red carpet's fashion icons.

Recently, the 20-year-old actress spoke to Marie Claire magazine and opened up about her dynamic personal style, and it seems that the young lady tries her best to walk the fine line between feminine sophistication and overt sex appeal.

"I don't get my flash out. I mean, I wear minidresses, but I try to do it tastefully. You don't want to see too much," she told the news source. "I think it's so much sexier to be understated. It's more intriguing to be sexy in a less obvious way."

However, that doesn't mean others don't try to get her to wear a revealing formal dress now and then.

"At every photo shoot, they want to make me sexy, put on [a lot of] makeup, make me look like a rock chick. It just felt like I was being pushed to be something I wasn't: 'Oh, look at Hermione, she's all grown up now!' But that's just not me," she added.

Leighton Meester dazzles in leather formal dress
15 February 2011

When people think of leather, they often conjure up images of burly bikers and rough rockers. Now, it seems that the daring fabric isn't just for tattoo-covered rebels anymore. In fact, it may soon be appearing at proms across the country!

Before you doubt us, consider Leighton Meester's stunning ensemble at the premiere of her new film, The Roommate. The young actress stepped out in a black formal dress that boasted a leather top and midriff-baring cutouts. However, her get-up beautifully embodied edgy elegance - the leather was softened with a long, floor-length skirt that flowed demurely from her body.

"This is a sultry upgrade from Blair Waldorf's prim style!" InStyle.com reported. "Sleek strands and smoky eyes added extra va-va-va-voom to Meester's smoldering look."

While the cutouts may be a bit much for a prom dress, budding fashionistas may want to follow Meester's lead and look for a gown that features leather embellishments. When used in moderation, this fantastic fabric can infuse any formal ensemble with a fun hint of rock and roll.

Details on Middleton's wedding attire!
15 February 2011

Last year, Carrie Underwood made headlines by wearing not one, but two wedding dresses when she walked down the aisle to wed Mike Fisher. Now, this year's most talked about bride-to-be may copy Underwood and also wear two gowns.

Fashion designer Bruce Oldfield recently appeared on Good Morning America and spilled more than a few details about Kate Middleton's upcoming wedding attire.

"There will be two dresses," Oldfield said on the program. "[The wedding dress] will have sleeves - it has to have sleeves. You can't walk down the aisle of Westminster Abbey in a strapless dress. It has to suit the grandeur of the aisle."

He also dished about her bridal accessories.

"I can predict she will wear a veil. That, to me, was the most poignant part of [Princess] Diana's wedding. As she was walking down the aisle, her eyes were going to the right and left, looking at people and smiling. That was great," Oldfield added.

While Oldfield has yet to confirm that he is designing Middleton's dresses, he did admit that he will definitely be dressing several wedding guests.

Middleton and her fiance, Prince William, are set to exchange vows on April 29 at Westminster Abbey.

Nab Rihanna's mermaid-chic couture
14 February 2011

If anyone can pull off looking like their favorite comic book character turned into a real-life walking fantasy fiction, it's R&B princess Rihanna, who wowed us all with her getup at last night's Grammy Awards.

The singer showed up to the red carpet wearing an unusual, off-the-shoulder white ruffled dress featuring swathes of see-through fabric and a long train that trailed behind her.

Paired with her head of blood-red hair, she looked absolutely mermaid-like, and we mean that in the best possible way. Leave it to Rihanna to make a barely there dress, cartoon-like hair color and fuchsia makeup all work together to create a wholly sophisticated look.

Not every girl shopping for her prom dress will be able to snag her haute couture gown from the runway like she did, but they can glean inspiration from her imaginative style and opt for a mermaid-cut dress instead. The silhouette will draw attention to your curves (if that's what you're after) in a most glamorous way.

Vintage pieces to wear with a gorgeous dress
11 February 2011

You don't need to watch an entire season of Mad Men to be swayed by the recent vintage vine that's influencing everything at the moment. From '60s-inspired party dresses to retro hairdos, it seems as though ladies all around the world are using the decade to influence their wardrobe.

TheBudgetFashionista.com recently had their own pointers on how to pay homage to the style from past years. Their first tip - don't hesitate to pile on noteworthy bracelets, necklaces and rings.

"Vintage jewelry is never out of style - and especially right now when statement jewelry is de rigueur," the writer muses. "The best part? Perfect with both the Little Black Dress and a slouchy tee and jeans."

The expert had some further tidbits that might be of interest to fashion lovers. An accented beaded headband will evoke memories of yesteryear while carrying around a candy frame coin purse will give an elegant and retro impression.

In the end, it's important to use your own sense of style and come up with ideas that you feel comfortable in. Put your thinking caps on and test out some adorable outfits right now!

Spring dresses you can wear right this minute
11 February 2011

Believe it or not, spring is right around the corner. Yes, the snow is piled three-feet high in many U.S. cities. And sure, the frigid temperature has forced scores of ladies to throw their party dresses to the back of their closets in favor of super-warm sweaters. Still, there are some incredible trends on the horizon that are bound to leave style mavens swooning.

The best part of this whole idea? Ladies can feel free to show off these trends right now.

According to Refinery29.com, the mid-length floral dress is going to be the go-to piece for the upcoming season.

"This is going to be the most versatile piece in your closet come spring," the expert advises. "For now, wear it with a dark turtleneck and some great wedges."

Of course, the news source took the time to mention some additional noteworthy pieces. A striped dress will allow girls to give off a seafaring vibe while out an about, and should be shown off with vibrant cardigans and blazers before it's sunny. Additionally, a graphic dress can easily be paired with loud tights and a heavy jacket for late winter events.

Throw some color into your ensemble for stand-out formal dresses
04 February 2011

Every girl wants to stand out when she's at an important event. Whether this means choosing from an array of brightly colored formal dresses or picking out a creation that features an out-of-sight design, it's often necessary to rock a piece that dazzles in order to make a lasting impression.

According to StyleList.com, women who aren't sure how to make their look pop can also add a splash of color to their ensemble. Whether this is accomplished by carrying an eye-catching bag or wearing an electrifying pair of tights, women have many options at their disposal.

Additionally, ladies shouldn't forget about the power of jewelry and ensemble additions.

"For the less intrepid who still want a dash of color, turn to a quick accessory you can make, like a silk scarf, sash belt or purse," the news source reports. "Because these projects require less fabric, usually you will find enough scrap fabric in your stash to whip one of these babies up on an impulse."

So what are you waiting for? Throw a hot pink belt over your little black dress and you're bound to look sensational.

Diane Kruger talks about her passion for clothes
03 February 2011

When it comes to gorgeous celebrities, it's hard to top Diane Kruger. The German-born lady and star of Quentin Tarantino's hit Inglourious Basterds is visually striking, yet she refrains from looking like the dime-a-dozen Tinseltown actresses of today.

Our adoration for the woman is growing by the minute, especially after she took the time to speak about her passion for - what else? - shopping.

"I truly, genuinely like clothes," she told Glamour magazine. "Making them is an art form, and wearing them is a form of self-expression. I find it very emotional because I can remember moments in my life - my mood, how I felt - through these clothes."

Kruger's obsession with formal dresses has been the focus of much attention these past few months. The gorgeous lady stepped out at a luncheon in New York in a gorgeous black dress that featured gemstone detailing and later turned heads in a poofy sky blue and black creation at a September event in New York.

We can't help but praise her for being so style-smart!

Claire Danes proves the power of a mid-knee-length dress
01 February 2011

You gotta love Claire Danes. The girl is not only incredibly talented - the lady just won countless awards for her hard-to-shake performance in the drama Temple Grandin - but she can turn heads on the red carpet as well. Her style sense was certainly on display at the Directors Guild Awards, where she was wearing a not-so-little black dress and looked absolutely fantastic.

Danes' getup was eye-catching for a number of reasons, but we couldn't help but note the fact that it was a nice spin on the LBD. While most starlets choose to show off an itty-bitty version of a black ensemble, Claire's piece fell to the middle of her calf and kept her legs mostly covered.

Girls who are searching for party dresses and are looking for a conservative creation may want to take a hint from Danes. A black dress such as this one is slimming and far from flashy, but still allows a woman to look fantastic. Pair it with some great jewelry and you're bound to appear as stunning as the sweet star.

Women over 50 still rock high heels
01 February 2011

While many women may assume that aging means trading in semi-formal dresses for stretchy pants and stilettos for orthopedic shoes, a new survey conducted by Saga Magazine has revealed that this couldn't be farther from the truth, the Daily Mail reports. According to the research, approximately 75 percent of women over 50 still happily wear high heels.

"The boundaries of ageing have changed beyond all recognition," Saga Magazine's Emma Soames told the news source. "The sensible flat shoe is no longer the footwear of choice by older women who still like to dress fashionably and smartly until well into their seventies."

Though they feel comfortable in such fancy footwear, more mature ladies are careful to avoid the steepest stilettos. The research found that only two percent would consider wearing heels over 5 inches.

However, there is one woman who certainly isn't afraid to rock sky-high shoes - Helen Mirren.

"Four-inch platforms give you great height and make your legs look unbelievably long," the 65-year-old actress told Woman & Home magazine. "I used to only be able to get them in stripper shops, but now you can buy them everywhere - although, unfortunately, that means everyone else has discovered the trick too!"

Amy Adams looks adorable in a beautiful beige dress
01 February 2011

It seems as though it would be easy to dislike Amy Adams - after all, the actress gave birth to her daughter, Aviana, just a few months ago, and the radiant redhead is still as slim as can be. Still, considering the girl always looks sweet-as-a-pie and has unbelievable style sense, we're having a hard time bringing on the hate party.

Adams also stepped out at the recent Directors Guild Awards in a piece that truly had us in awe. While her get-up could have been ordinary considering its ho-hum color, the woman proved that sometimes it only takes the right cut to take a look from drab to fab.

We adored Amy's look for two reasons - first, its bodice. The strapless piece gathered around her upper body in a horizontal fashion and crisscrossed around her bosom.

However, the lower half of the piece went in the opposite direction and the change-up was out-of-sight. The skirt, which stayed close to her body but still allowed her some breathing room, allowed her to show off her toned, post-pregnancy bod.

Congrats to the girl for a flawless appearance!

Television's newest leading ladies talk style
01 February 2011

January signals more than just a new year - it also means a slew of television shows will be trotted out as midseason replacements. Like always, our eyes are open for the programs with the most stylish women, and the two that have caught our attention couldn't be more different - USA's Fairly Legal, starring Sarah Shahi as lawyer-turned-mediator Kate Reed, and American Idol's Jennifer Lopez.

"I really demanded that [my character] have an amazing wardrobe," Shahi told InStyle magazine. "When we started filming, I was wearing six-inch heels, but Kate was always running all over the city, so we had to take them down a few inches."

We're also keeping an eye on the always gorgeous Lopez. Recently, the American Idol judge promised that she would show off a wide variety of looks, from jeans to semi-formal dresses.

"You're going to see everything," Lopez said at the TCA Press tour, InStyle.com reports. "I can only be myself on the show. I'm not going to try and play it down or play it up or do anything...I don't want to overthink it too much. I'm a girl who likes to get dressed up, put on her jewelry or her lipstick and go. So that's what you'll get."

Jennifer Hudson talks about upcoming wedding
01 February 2011

While many people rush into wedding planning as soon as they get engaged, Jennifer Hudson has taken her time. Hudson's partner, David Otunga, proposed in 2008, and the two have spent the last three years putting together the perfect ceremony.

"Everything is already set," she told OK Magazine. "We already have our wedding bands and everything made, and Neil Lane made them."

The Oscar winner also opened up about the wedding dress she'll be sporting.

"I designed it myself. I did. It has its own show. It is a show, so it has to have its own moment with special lighting and everything, and theme music," Hudson told the news source. "It's white. That's the color, in keeping with tradition."

While Hudson and Otunga have yet to tie the knot, the pair already share an unbreakable bond - they are parents to 17-month-old David, who, according to Hudson, may play a role in the ceremony as well.

"He will look just like his father in his tux. So cute. I'll have both my Davids. Maybe he'll walk Mommy down the aisle. That would be so cute!" she added.
